Junior Organisers’ Handbook

Playing golf can contribute to the personal development of young people because participants can have fun, be creative, express imagination and improve their self-esteem.

Investment in junior golf is crucial and all of us involved in golf must ensure we make this a priority. There is a real need to attract and retain more juniors within the game and support their ambitions, be it regular coaching, golf club membership, club or tour professional, representing Europe in the Ryder Cup or winning the Open Championship at St. Andrews.

The Juniors’ Handbook which is a comprehensive guide to running a successful junior section will help strengthen junior structures within golf clubs in England and help JLO’s to take on board the importance of enthusiastically promoting and supporting junior development at all levels in the future.

Every member of a golf club can help provide a welcome for young people, and the Junior Organisers Handbook which is produced by the EGU and EWGA hopes to show some of the ways that a club as a whole can encourage new players into the game, sustain their participation, develop their skills and also help them make the transition into the adult ranks.

The Junior Organisers’ Handbook has been designed to challenge some existing practices and help guide golf clubs on how best to encourage junior golf now and in the future. There are many volunteers who take on the role of junior organiser within their club, and the handbook will assist them in their role and help them to provide the guidance that juniors require to fulfill their potential and continue within the game to whatever level they aspire.

The Handbook:

• Acts as a complete reference guide for golf club junior organisers.
• Supports and assists those working with juniors within the club environment.
• Creates healthy and sustainable junior structures.
• Invests in the future of golf clubs and the game as a whole.
• Encourages and supports family use of golf clubs.

All affiliated golf clubs have been sent a complimentary copy of the EGU/EWGA Junior Organisers’ Handbook but further copies can be purchased from the EGU online shop for £14.00(inc P&P).
